森林物種之種原保存為生物多樣性保育極重要之一環，以林試所已建立之種子儲藏庫與種源後裔試驗地，進行森林野生物種源之保存，並與其它單位合作建立種原資料庫及移地備份系統，提供保育材料及民眾資詢服務。為更有效之保存種源，除管理維護種子庫及後裔試驗地，保存重要的種源外，並進行自海邊至高山之重要森林植物之種子休眠與發芽機制、族群遺傳、授粉生物學等研究，以期瞭解種原保存所需之生物學與遺傳學，並發展區外保育方式，以達到最有效之種源保存與利用。Conservation of forest species germplasm is one of the most critical components of biodiversity conservation. This project carries out the conservation of wild forest germplasm using the seed storage bank and progeny test plots established by the Forestry Research Institute. It also collaborates with other institutions to build a germplasm database and off-site backup system, providing conservation materials and public consultation services. To achieve more effective germplasm conservation, beyond managing and maintaining the seed bank and progeny test plots to preserve valuable germplasm, the project conducts studies on seed dormancy and germination mechanisms, population genetics, pollination biology, and other related aspects of important forest plants spanning from coastal areas to high mountains. These studies aim to clarify the biological and genetic prerequisites for germplasm conservation, develop ex-situ conservation strategies, and ultimately achieve the most efficient conservation and utilization of forest germplasm.
