Electoral Systems in the Americas, 1900-2021

This dataset tracks the evolution of electoral systems in 20 Latin American countries plus the United States, focusing on the lower house of each country to allow for the comparison between unicameral and bicameral systems. The file contains detailed information on electoral formulas, tiers, types of lists, and district magnitude. It also includes two novel indices capturing the Potential for Proportionality and the Potential for Personal Vote generated by the electoral rules for the lower house.
