Blooming (2025) - Score Video

The animated score for Blooming incorporates cyclical changes to the composer photograph inspired by photosynthesis. The work features an animated image of shimmering flowers, which foreground a gradual shift in colour and brightness to represent the passage of time: specifically, the cycle from night to day across three photosynthesis cycles. The performer tracks these transitions as time markers, where each return to dawn signifies the beginning of a new photosynthetic cycle. The image was animated by filmmaker Angus Kirby, with some additional abstracted visuals to reinforce the idea of a living, breathing environment. These visuals feature close up imagery of plant textures, and abstracted light sequences to evoke the conversion of energy, sourced and manipulated by Kirby.
