Biogeographical Districts of the Caatinga Dominion: A Proposal Based on Geomorphology and Endemism - Supplementary data

These are the supplementary data to the article "Biogeographical Districts of the Caatinga Dominion: A Proposal Based on Geomorphology and Endemism", published in The Botanical Review (https://doi.org/10.1007/s12229-024-09304-5). Our study proposes a subdivision of the Caatinga Dominion into biogeographical Provinces, Subprovinces and Districts, and produced a new geomorphological and biogeographical map to the whole Caatinga.We provide here the geomorphological map (in JPG and PDF formats) and the shapefile used to produce it, to allow readers to create their own maps based on our proposal. We also provide our biogeographical map in high resolution (in JPEG and PDF formats, with and without the Brejos Nordestinos de Altitude enclaves and with and without the borders of the Brazilian states) for download. The shapefiles used to create our biogeographical map are also available here, with the limits of the proposed biogeographical districts. We also provide a GeoPDF with our map, to allow users to use this map in mobile phones during fieldwork. But we call attention that our map is intended to be used as a general map, and the exact border between one unit and other can be a few kilometres away from what is represented in our map. This map is intended to be used in a scale of 1:1,000,000. It is, thus, not a large scale (detailed) map, but a general reference. The exact line between two units in often difficult to determine and users must use this map with caution during fieldwork, specially near the borders between districts.The mapping of the enclaves of humid forests within Caatinga (Brejos Nordestinos de Altitude district) is a research still in progress by Taynara Rabelo-Costa. She kindly provided a preliminary version of her map to allow readers of this article to have an overview of the distribution of these enclaves, but a final version of her map is still being produced and this version should be considered non-final when our study is released.We also provide here a spreadsheet with 329 endemic Caatinga species records in which district each species is known. Some endemic species are widespread within the Caatinga, while others are restricted to one or few districts.We stimulate biogeographers and those mapping biodiversity in Caatinga to create their own maps, for their own study group, based on our proposal.After the release of our first map in Fighshere posted on 2024-08-19, we detected a number of erros in our polygons. We updated the shapefiles and maps for the article and upload here version 2 of our maps and shapefiles. Version 2 is the version used to illustrate our article and should be the version to use until future studies refine our map.
