GLACIMONTIS

Disclaimer: All glacier reconstructions in GLACIMONTIS are either openly available, included with explicit author permission, or digitized as derivative products from published figures; original sources are fully cited, and users are requested to cite both GLACIMONTIS and the original publications when reusing the data. GLACIMONTIS is an open-access global geodatabase of mountain glacier extents and represents the most comprehensive and up-to-date synthesis of mountain glacier extent around the Last Glacial Maximum (MIS 3 to 2; 57-14 ka) spanning 57-14 kyr BP. Our synthesis integrates reconstructions from 209 studies across 271 mountain ranges worldwide, compiling 15,014 individual glacier reconstructions, including 8,809 reconstructions compiled for the first time in a global geodatabase. The database incorporates detailed metadata, direct links to original sources, a hierarchical mountain range classification system. Our work updates knowledge in 135 mountain ranges and highlights research gaps in 71 others.
