S1_Area approximation

This is the supplementary dataset S1 to the paper "How to quantify heavy mineral fertility from point-counting data". The data shows how the area of detrital grains was calculated by (1) using the measured longest and shortest grain diameter (a and b-axis) and approximating the area as circles, ellipses, squares and rectangles, and (2) by measuring the true area with the wand tool in ImageJ. The best-fit area approximation was identified by the least square method.
