CPEC-Tourism-WellBeing: Data on Perceptions and Opinions from Districts along CPEC Route in Gilgit-Baltistan
As a pilot project of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), China and Pakistan have signed several multi-billion projects on energy, infrastructure, and communication jointly called the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). Along with direct effects of these investments, some underdeveloped regions are also witnessing indirect benefits. On such region is Gilgit-Baltistan located in the extreme north of Pakistan. The region is the only entry point of the corridor and has therefore enormous importance. The tourism inflow has increased exponentially in the region in the recent years. we consider four districts of Gilgit-Baltistan namely Gilgit, Nagar, Hunza and Diamer given their alignment along the CPEC route. Objectives: In this backdrop, the present study examines the impact of CPEC on fostering tourism and ultimately its impact on economic well-being in the region.
