Dynamic Generate XML SAP ABAP

This article explores the use of SAP ABAP to dynamically generate XML files based on data extracted from database tables. The study was motivated by a client's migration from SAP ECC to S/4HANA, a crucial step in the digitalization of business processes. During the migration, the need to modernize a legacy XML generation program was identified. The existing program contained fixed values and rigid logic, making maintenance and adaptations to new legal requirements challenging.

The program needed to generate XML files with Human Resources data and make them available in an SFTP folder for integration with a payroll processing provider. The developed solution replaced the old code with a new dynamic program based on configuration tables, offering greater flexibility and ease of maintenance. With this approach, users gained more control over layouts and generated data, ensuring efficiency and compliance with constant regulatory changes.

This case study demonstrates how a strategic approach to ABAP development can optimize processes and ensure long-term sustainability in SAP environments.
