The interplay between low-dimensionality, geometrical frustration, and spin-orbit coupling in quantum spin systems gives rise to a diverse range of magnetic ground states. The analytical tractability of magnetic models that feature these key ingredients, however, generally becomes unfeasible as the dimensionality of the effective magnetic sublattice surpasses one-dimensional models. As such, the emergent ground states of the most widely studied magnetic models in condensed matter research are often heavily debated. One exception is the exactly solvable Kitaev model, which arises in the presence of strong and directional easy-axis exchange anisotropy on a honeycomb network and gives rise to a topological magnetic ground state known at the Kitaev quantum spin liquid. Here we propose to explore the Ru3+-based honeycomb magnet RuP3SiO11 as a promising candidate for Kitaev physics.
