The Golden Bond: Unfolding the Kapulukaya Hoard - 3D Models, Metadata and Paradata

This dataset accompanies The Golden Bond: Unfolding the Kapulukaya Hoard, a three-dimensional cultural heritage interpretation of the Kapulukaya Hoard associated with the Erimtan Archaeology and Arts Museum. The archaeological assemblage comprises a terracotta vessel and twenty-one Late Roman gold solidi: one coin of Valentinian I, sixteen of Valens, three of Gratian and one of Valentinian II. All twenty-one coins were struck at the Antioch mint. The Valentinian II solidus, dated to AD 376-378, is the latest datable coin in the assemblage and provides its chronological horizon. The dataset contains optimised three-dimensional assets and supporting documentation for browser-based, annotated and immersive interpretation. The verified optimised coin-model set currently includes twenty-one GLB files: `env1.glb` to `env21.glb`. The three-dimensional workflow combines FARO laser-arm digitisation, Blender-based asset preparation and optimised GLB delivery. The received coin GLBs contain embedded WebP image payloads and Draco-compressed geometry. Geometry simplification was disabled in the documented optimisation workflow in order to preserve the small-scale surface features required for numismatic interpretation, including inscriptions, portrait details, reverse imagery and mint information. The dataset also includes a standards-oriented documentation package: - `kapulukaya-cidoc-crm.jsonld`: CIDOC CRM-aligned object, assemblage, place and event metadata.- `kapulukaya-crmdig-paradata.jsonld`: CRMdig-informed digitisation, processing, asset-delivery and checksum documentation.- `numismatic-alignment.jsonld`: Nomisma-linked denomination, mint and imperial authority alignment, with OCRE and CHRE reconciliation notes.- `fair-dataset-catalogue.jsonld`: FAIR-oriented dataset catalogue and distribution record.- `london-charter-implementation.md`: documentation of evidence, interpretive decisions, technical method, sustainability and access following the London Charter.- `kapulukaya-human-readable-catalogue.csv`: readable object and asset catalogue, including app use, alignments, provenance notes and original pre-compression technical fields. Within the associated application, the assets support Three.js vessel-centred scenes, PCSS-based annotated coin close reading, integrated 4D Viewer spatio-temporal contextualisation and Rooom XR/WebXR mobile inspection. Contextual route or portrait assets, where included, are documented separately from the digitised hoard objects and should not be interpreted as objects belonging to the assemblage. This deposit is intended to support transparent reuse of the project’s three-dimensional cultural heritage workflow, structured metadata and paradata documentation for research, public interpretation and future micro-heritage applications.
