It can be physiologically divided into at least 4 stages of development, including developing or previtellogenic stage, early and late-developing stages, and mature stage. The investigation of gene expression during ovarian developmental stages will provide information on how the vitellogenesis is controlled, including protein-coding and long non-coding genes.
