It is well known that mutagenic factors, whether chemical or enzymatic, mutate DNA in characteristic ways, thereby revealing clues to their identities. The analysis of mutation patterns can thus reveal clues on the natural history of a tumor and on past exposures to carcinogens. However, analyses of human tumor data can be challenging due to the multiple etiologic factors often involved. This project aims to characterize exome-wide mutation signatures induced by specific carcinogens in an in vitro cell immortalization assay. The data generated will allow tracing back specific carcinogen exposures in human samples, thus providing critical clues for the interpretation of mutation patterns observed in human tumors.
