NP3_2022 Ramsar areas
Static theme. Shows data for the final Natura2000 plan 2022, which is the revised Natura 2000 baseline analysis 2022-2027 underlying the 2021 consultation of Natura 2000 plans 2022-2027. The theme shows which data were applicable 1/5-2021. A Ramsar area is one of three types of international nature conservation areas: Community bird protection areas, Community habitat areas and Ramsar areas. The former two are collectively referred to as Natura 2000 sites. Ramsar areas are protected wetlands of particular importance for birds. Ramsar areas have been designated on the basis of the “Convention of 2 February 1971 on wetlands of international importance in particular as a habitat for waterbirds” — also called the “Ramsar Convention” after the city of Iran where the Convention was established. Denmark subsequently approved the Amending Protocol to the Convention of 3 December 1982 and the amendment of the Convention of 3 June 1987. Denmark has designated 27 Ramsar areas with a total area of approximately 7.400 km². The total area is distributed with approximately 6.000 km² as marine areas and approximately 1.400 km² on land, as the Danish Ramsar areas often include marsh meadows or other areas bordering the wetlands.
