Interplay of evolving charge and spin density wave in topological semimetal candidates LnSbTe (Ln = Nd,Ce)

Topological semimetals (TSMs) are materials that exhibit massless charge carriers, which confer a range of materials properties that are of interest to fundamental physics and the development of new quantum devices. Incorporating magnetism into TSMs is of further interest to these ends. Our recent collaboration with WISH scientists to study magnetic TSM candidates in the solid solution NdSbxTe2-x-d implies a complex change in the magnetic structure that is coupled to crystal structure distortions that evolve with changing Sb composition x in NdSb0.48Te1.37. We propose neutron diffraction experiments on NdSb0.3Te1.60 to further track the evolution of magnetic structure with the known evolving structure distortion. We then propose neutron diffraction with compositions in CeSbxTe2-x-d to find if a similar evolution occurs in a structurally similar system with different magnetic properties.
