X-ray diffraction results from IODP Hole 389-M0110A@en

Results of X-ray diffraction (XRD) analyses from the above given hole of International Ocean Discovery Program (IODP) Expedition 389 (Hawaiian Drowned Reefs). The offshore phase of this expedition took place between 2023-08-31 and 2023-10-31 onboard multipurpose vessel MMA Valour sailing from and to Barbers Point Harbor, Hawai'i, USA, followed by the onshore phase from 2025-02-06 to 2025-02-26 at the Bremen Core Repository (BCR) hosted at MARUM – Center for Marine Environmental Sciences, University of Bremen. During the onshore phase a set of solid-phase samples, with a volume of approx. 10 cubic centimeters each, were taken from the work halves of core sections with the purpose to be later on split into aliquots for the following three analyses: X-ray diffraction, carbon analyses and X-ray fluorescence. Unprocessed samples were freeze-dried, ground and homogenized to a fine powder (<20 µm particle size) by ECORD Science Operator staff using a pestle and an agate mortar or a ball mill. The aliquots for XRD analysis were prepared with the Philips backloading system in the Crystallography and Geomaterials Research laboratories of the Geoscience Department at the University of Bremen (Germany). X-ray diffractograms were measured on a Bruker D8 Discover diffractometer. Mineral identification and semi-quantification were done using the Philips software X'Pert HighScore Version 1.2 (Degen et al., 2014, https://doi.org/10.1017/S0885715614000840) following concepts of Vogt (2009, https://doi.org/10.2204/iodp.proc.302.203.2009). 本数据集包含国际大洋发现计划(International Ocean Discovery Program, IODP)389航次(夏威夷淹没礁)指定钻孔的X射线衍射(X-ray diffraction, XRD)分析结果。该航次海上作业阶段于2023年8月31日至2023年10月31日开展,搭载多用途科考船"MMA Valour"号,往返于美国夏威夷州巴伯斯角港;后续陆上作业阶段于2025年2月6日至2025年2月26日,在不来梅大学MARUM海洋环境科学中心下属的不来梅岩芯库(Bremen Core Repository, BCR)进行。陆上作业期间,科研人员从岩芯剖面的工作半块中采集固相样品,每份样品体积约10立方厘米,后续将其拆分为若干分装样,用于开展三项分析:X射线衍射、碳分析及X射线荧光光谱分析。未经过处理的原始样品由ECORD科学运维团队人员使用研钵与玛瑙研钵或球磨机进行冷冻干燥、研磨均质,最终制备为粒径小于20微米的细粉。用于XRD分析的分装样在德国不来梅大学地球科学系晶体学与地球材料研究实验室,采用Philips背装制样系统完成制备。X射线衍射图谱通过Bruker D8 Discover衍射仪采集。矿物鉴定与半定量分析采用Philips X'Pert HighScore 1.2版软件(Degen等,2014,https://doi.org/10.1017/S0885715614000840),参照Vogt(2009,https://doi.org/10.2204/iodp.proc.302.203.2009)提出的分析方法完成。所有测试结果均以重量百分比(wt%)标注。[…]
