Hydrogenophilus thermoluteolus is an aerobic, CO_2 -fixing hydrogen oxidizier ("Knallgasbacterium"). It shows a moderate thermophilic lifestyle with a growth optimum at 51°C. Thermophilic aerobic H_2 oxidizers are rare and encode thermostable oxygen-tolerant hydrogenases, which are of biotechnological relevance. Furthermore, the genome sequence of H. thermoluteolous might aid in identifying of new thermostable enzymes of interest.
