RUGGI Study. Dataset Oncology

This dataset originates from a prospectively registered observational study conducted within the framework of the RUGGI project. It includes fully de-identified clinical data from adult patients experiencing cancer-related pain. Data were collected at a single tertiary-care center (AUO Ruggi d'Aragona, Salerno, Italy) following approval by the local Ethics Committee, and all participants provided written informed consent. The dataset comprises demographic, clinical, functional, and pain-related variables collected at baseline as part of routine clinical care. Pain intensity was measured using a 0-10 NRS. Pain phenotype was assessed using the Douleur Neuropathique 4 (DN4) questionnaire. Pain-related severity and functional interference were evaluated using the Brief Pain Inventory (BPI). Functional status was assessed using the Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group Performance Status (ECOG-PS). Additional variables include cancer type, metastatic status, ongoing oncologic treatments, selected comorbidities, and analgesic therapy, including opioid use. All variables were collected using standardized clinical definitions and validated instruments. The dataset contains both continuous and categorical variables. Missing data were managed according to predefined criteria specified in the associated study protocol, and variables with excessive missingness were excluded from multivariable analyses. No direct or indirect personal identifiers are included. All records are anonymized in compliance with applicable data protection regulations. This dataset was used to perform multivariable linear regression, unsupervised clustering, and supervised machine-learning analyses to investigate determinants and patterns of cancer-related pain intensity. The dataset is shared to promote transparency, reproducibility, and secondary non-commercial research use, in accordance with the license specified.
