Social media's popularization has profoundly changed how cities communicate their international image. As an internationalized city in China, Shanghai's image communication is of great significance to enhancing the country's soft power. Based on schema theory, this study conducted multi-dimensional research on the discussion about Shanghai on the Twitter platform through word frequency statistics, sentiment analysis, and LDA topic modeling to systematically reveal netizens' sentiment attitudes and cognitive characteristics. The study found that netizens generally hold positive sentiments towards Shanghai, but negative sentiments and stereotypes exist in areas such as high consumption costs and inadequate infrastructure. Through modeling analysis of positive and negative sentiment themes, five core dimensions of Shanghai's international image are summarized: international reputation, development potential, urban appearance, basic support, and human vitality. The study deepens the applicability of schema theory in urban communication research and provides a theoretical basis and practical path for optimizing the communication strategy of Shanghai's international image.
