Metabolism of dissolved organic matter in forest soils

The metabolism of soil organisms alters the composition of organics leached from litter and soil affecting the chemical quality of soil carbon and its availability for recycling or sequestration. We profiled the changes in metabolite pools produced during the growth stages of four soil bacterial isolates. Two of these bacteria (Paraburkholderia 1N and Paraburkholderia 5N) represent novel species which will be described in future.
