Cloud data centers have become essential for meeting the demands of rapid IT growth. However, datacenters require massive amounts of electricity to operate 24/7, significantly increasing CO2 emissions. Tuhin's thesis explores the challenges and promising opportunities surrounding the utilization of renewable energy sources to power datacenters. He proposes innovative algorithms that can match the fluctuating energy demand of datacenters with the variable and intermittent supply of renewable energy. Through empirical experimentation with a real-life service load and an energy model based on Melbourne weather data, Tuhin achieved a noteworthy reduction of 26.6% in CO2 emissions when compared to state-of-the-art algorithms.
