This register contains a summary record of all Auction Sales in the Land District of Hay, kept by the Hay Crown Land Agent, later the Hay Lands Office.Crown Lands that could be sold at public auction include: conditionally purchased lands that had been deemed to have been abandoned; land that has no conditions for residence or improvement; land that has had no improvements done; land put up for sale at auction that did not sell, can be put up for auction again.Crown Land to be auctioned by the Crown had first to be surveyed. By law a Crown Land auction had to be proclaimed by the Governor within three months of the scheduled date of sale, and not less than one month before.The ‘Crown Land Alienation Act of 1861’ states that a deposit of twenty five percent of the purchase price be paid at the time of sale, and the balance to be paid within three months, else the contract be void and the deposit forfeited, and the land put up for auction again.The heading at the top of each page in the register reads: ‘Sale of Crown Lands held at Hay on the (date inserted), under the Advertisement dated the (date inserted).’ Each page is a different day listing all the lots sold on that particular day, and each lot is given a letter: ‘A’ ‘B’ etc, starting at ‘A’ on each new day/page.The register records information such as the letter for the lot sold for each day; the situation of the land giving county, parish, town or place; extent of the lot, i.e. sold, not sold or withdrawn; allotment or portion; section; rate, upset or realised; purchasers; amount; remissions; deposit; balance; balance when paid; and any further remarks.

本登记册由海伊（Hay）王室土地代理人（后更名为海伊土地办事处）编撰，完整收录了海伊土地辖区内所有公开拍卖的土地交易汇总记录。可公开拍卖的王室土地（Crown Lands）包括：被认定为弃置的附条件购置土地、无居住或改良要求的土地、未开展任何改良的土地，以及曾流拍可再次上架拍卖的土地。由王室组织拍卖的王室土地，须先完成勘测。根据法律规定，王室土地拍卖须由总督（Governor）在预定拍卖日期前至少一个月，且不晚于该日期前三个月内发布公告。1861年《王室土地转让法》（Crown Land Alienation Act of 1861）规定，竞买人须在拍卖成交时支付成交价25%的定金，余款须于三个月内付清；否则合同将被视为无效，定金予以没收，且该土地可再次上架拍卖。本登记册每页顶部均标注有如下标题：「于（插入日期）在海伊举办的王室土地拍卖会，依据（插入日期）发布的公告举行」。每页对应一个独立的拍卖日，列明当日成交的全部地块；每个地块均被分配字母编号（如A、B等），每日/每页均从字母A开始编号。本登记册记录的信息包括：每日地块的字母编号、土地所在的郡、教区、城镇或具体地点、地块状态（成交、流拍或撤回）、分配份额或部分地块信息、地段编号、单位地价、底价或实际成交价、竞买人、成交金额、减免款项、定金、应付款余额、实际付清的余款金额，以及其他补充备注。
