Streptococcus agalactiae Genome sequencing and assembly

139 nonduplicate S. agalactiae clinical strains isolated from non-pregnant adult were collected at a tertiary care hospital in Shandong province, China. The antibiotic susceptibility testing, whole-genome sequencing, and genomic analyses were performed to identify the genomic characterization and resistance features of the strains. While S. agalactiae strains in non-pregnant adults retain sensitivity to Beta lactam antibiotics, the elevated resistance to erythromycin, clindamycin, levofloxacin, and tetracycline is concerning. Given the growing elderly population worldwide, the burden of S. agalactiae infections is significant. Continuous surveillance of serotype distribution and antibiotic resistance patterns is imperative for targeted prevention and therapeutic strategies.
