کتاب امان الاخطار

A Vade-mecum for Travellers, comprising prayers and ceremonies to be performed, and amulets and remedies to be used by them for their safety. It was compiled by RAḌÎ AL-DÎN ABU’L-ḲÂSIM ‘Alî b. Mûsa b. Ja’far b. Muḥammad b. Muḥammad b. Ṭâ’ûs (ṬÂ’ÛSÎ) ‘Alawî Fâṭimî, a Shî’ite and chief (نقیب) of the Saiyids, who probably lived in the latter part of the seventh century. This treatise is properly entitled الامان من اخطار الاسفار والازمان. Cf. Ḥ. Kh. i. 433.

Begins: یقول مولانا الافضل الاکمل الاورع العابد المرابط المجاهد.... الحمدلله الذی استجارت به الارواح بلسان الحال فی اخراجها من العدم فاجارها

In thirteen chapters, each subdivided into sections (فصل), a list of which is inserted in the preface. The chapters are on the following subjects: I. فیما نذکر من کیفیة العزم و النیة للاسفار و ما یحتاج الیه قبل الخروج من المسکن و الدار, in fifteen sections; II. (fol. 19v.) فیما یصحبه الانسان معه فی اسفاره للسلامة من اخطاره و اکداره, in five sections; III. (fol. 24) فیما نذکره مما یصحبه الانسان معه فی السفر من الرفقاء و المهام و الطعام, in four sections: IV. (fol. 29v.) فیما نذکره من آداب لبس المداس و النعل و السیف و العدة عند الاسفار,in three sections; V. (fol. 37) فیما نذکره من استعداد العوذ للفارس و الراکب عند الاسفار و للدواب للحمایة من الاخطار, in five sections; VI. (fol. 45) فیما ندکره مما یحمله صحبته من الکتب التی تعین علی العبادة و زیادة السعادة, in thirteen sections; VII. (fol. 53v.) فیما نذکره اذا شرع الانسان فی خروجه من الدار للاسفار و ما یعمله عند الباب و عند رکوب الدواب, in five sections; VIII. (fol. 60v.)فیما نذکره عند المسیر و الطریق و مهمات حسن التوفیق و الامان من الخطر و التعویق, in three sections; IX. (fol. 62v.) فیما نذکره اذا کان سفره فی سفینة او عبور فیها و ما یفتح علینا من (فی) مهمّاتها, in twenty-five sections; X. (fol. 76) فیما نذکره مما نقول عند النزول من المروی المنقول و ما یفتح علینا من زیادة فی القبول و ما یتحصن به من المخوفات من الدعوات, in twelve sections; XI. (fol. 88v.)فیما نذکره من دواءٍ لبعض جوارح الانسان فیما یعرض فی السفر من سقم الابدان و فیه کتاب بُرءٍ ساعةٍ لابن زکریاء واضح البیان, comprising the whole treatise of Abu Bakr Muḥammad b. Zakarîyâ RÂZÎ, the celebrated physician (d. A.H. 311 or 320). This treatise begins:

الحمدلله هو اهله و مستحقه...هذا کتاب (fol.89) الفه محمد بن زکریاء الرازی فی الطب و ترجمة برء ساعة قال ابو بکر احمد (sic) ابن زکریاء الرازی کنت عند الوزیر ابی القاسم عبدالله فجری بحضرته ذکر شئ فی الطب الخ;1

XII. (fol. 93) فیما جرّبناه و اقترن بالقبول, on amulets tried by the author’s own experience, in five sections; XXIII. (fol. 94) فیما نذکره من کتابٍ صنّفه قسطا بن لوقا لابی محمد الحسن بن مخلد فی تدبیر الابدان فی السفر للسلامة من المرض و الخطر ننقله بلفظ مصنّفه, consisting only of the treatise of ḲUSṬA B. LÛḲA.

Neatly written, of the eleventh century.

The last two pages contain an extract from الدُرّ النظیم, i.e. probably the treatise of IBN AL-KHASHSHÂB, on the properties of some verses of the Koran, mentioned in Ḥ. Kh. iii. 197. This extract begins:

قال الامام الغزالی انّ فی القران العظیم اربع آیات. It is written by a different hand.

The first eight leaves are misplaced; they should stand in the following order: 1, 4, 2, 3, 6, 7, 5, 8.
