Whole exome sequencing of hypercholesterolemia in Malaysian Malays

The Malaysian Cohort (TMC) Project, a multi-ethnic population-based cohort, has reported that 44•9% of Malaysians have hypercholesterolemia, of which 51% are Malay. Hypercholesterolemia due to genetic causes is known as familial hypercholesterolemia (FH), an autosomal dominant disease. We identified variants involved in hypercholesterolemia among Malays and determined the association between genetics and the environmental risk factors.
