Systemic effects of gut dysbiosis in chronic kidney disease - Gut dysbiosis and systemic inflammation linked to vascular injury in chronic kidney disease.

Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is associated with alterations in the gut microbiome. Metabolites and toxins from gut microbiota enter the systemic circulation and induce inflammation and vascular injury, which promote cardiac and brain disease. We are conducting studies in CKD models and patient cohorts to understand dietary effects and explore potential therapies that modulate the gut microbiome in CKD.
