Seismic behaviour of inter-module connection in a multi-storey steel modular building

This thesis develops a new inter-module connection that joins prefabricated building modules, allowing multi-storey buildings to be assembled with reduced on-site work and to meet seismic design requirements. The connection uses a single rod tightened from above, simplifying on-site assembly compared with existing bolted inter-module connections. Cyclic laboratory tests and finite element simulations evaluate the connection's response. A validated analytical model captures this behaviour in a design-ready form, and building-scale analyses show that buildings using the connection retain nearly the full stiffness and strength of rigid connection.
