VPRS 5297 Court of General Sessions Criminal Record Book

This series was created to record cases heard in the Court of General Sessions. In 1968 local Courts of General Sessions were abolished and a criminal jurisdiction was established in the County Court for the whole of Victoria.The Court of General Sessions heard exclusively cases that were of a more serious nature than the Court of Petty Sessions. Details recorded in this series include: the number of the case for each session, name of the accused, offence they were charged with, the plea, verdict, listing of the verdict, the sentence (if found guilty), date of the sentence, the Jury (if required the individual members names were listed), the adjudicating magistrate and remarks in which any additional matters were recorded. The name of the Judge who presided over each session was listed at the top of the page.

本数据集系列旨在记录总裁判法庭（Court of General Sessions）审理的全部案件。1968年，各地总裁判法庭被正式撤销，维多利亚州全境的县法院（County Court）自此获得专属刑事管辖权。总裁判法庭仅受理案情较简易裁判法庭（Court of Petty Sessions）更为严重的刑事案件。本系列收录的案件详情包括：各庭审的案件编号、被告人姓名、被控罪名、答辩意见、裁判结果、裁判结果明细、刑罚内容（仅当被告人被判有罪时予以记录）、判决作出日期、陪审团信息（若案件需组成陪审团，则列明全体陪审员姓名）、主审治安法官，以及用于记录各类额外事项的备注栏。每份卷宗的页眉处均会列明该庭审的主审法官姓名。
