Today’s potential natural vegetation: The map of today’s potential natural vegetation (HPNV) depicts the final societies of vegetation development (usually forest societies) that would occur without human influence under today’s site conditions. It is thus a vegetation-sensitive location map. Visible from a scale of 1:100,000 or greater.
