Habitat critical to the survival of marine turtles in Australian waters

In Australia, all six species of marine turtles that occur in our waters are protected under the Australian Government's Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 (EPBC Act) and various State and Northern Territory legislation.\n\nFlatback Turtle (Natator depressus)\nGreen Turtle (Chelonia mydas)\nHawksbill Turtle (Eretmochelys imbricata)\nLeatherback Turtle (Dermochelys coriacea)\nLoggerhead Turtle (Caretta caretta)\nOlive Ridley Turtles (Lepidochelys olivacea)\n\nUnder section 270(2)(d) of the EPBC Act, 'Habitat critical to the survival of the listed threatened species' must be identified in the Recovery Plan for Marine Turtles. The criteria for describing habitat critical to the survival of a species for marine turtles was determined in accordance with the EPBC Act Significant Impact Guidelines 1.1 - Matters of National Environmental Significance. The guidelines define 'habitat critical to the survival of a species' as areas necessary:\n• activities such as foraging, breeding or dispersal\n• for the long-term maintenance of the species (including the maintenance of species essential to the survival of the species)\n• to maintain genetic diversity and long term evolutionary development\n• for the reintroduction of populations or recovery of the species.\n\nThe mapped areas were identified by consensus of a panel of experts in marine turtle biology.Data is licenced under the department's restrictive Data Licence Deed\n© Commonwealth of Australia (Australian Government Department of the Environment and Energy) 2018\nData is in draft format only\nDepartmental Deed\nData is licenced under the department's restrictive Data Licence Deed\n

依据EPBC法案第270(2)(d)条之规定，《海洋海龟恢复计划（Recovery Plan for Marine Turtles）》必须明确标注“物种生存关键栖息地（Habitat critical to the survival of the listed threatened species）”。海洋海龟物种的生存关键栖息地判定标准，系依照EPBC法案《国家环境重要事项重大影响指南1.1（EPBC Act Significant Impact Guidelines 1.1 - Matters of National Environmental Significance）》制定。该指南将“物种生存关键栖息地”定义为满足以下条件的必需区域：
• 觅食、繁殖或洄散等活动所需的区域
• 物种长期存续所需的区域（包括维持该物种生存所必需的关联物种的存续）
• 维持遗传多样性与长期演化发展所需的区域
• 用于种群重新引入或物种恢复所需的区域
