Europe Goes on Holiday. The European Parliament's contribution to the making of a common tourism policy

The dataset presents a collection of data on the contribution of the European Parliament to the making of a European tourism policy, gathered by the author throughout her postdoctoral research activities in the fields of the history of European tourism policies and the history of European integration.

More specifically, the dataset is based on a search in the Official Journal of the European Union (English version), with a view to retrieve the written questions addressed to the European Commission and the European Council by the Members of the European Parliament (Meps) on tourism-related issues between 1979 and 1999. For each question the following information was noted in an Excel spreadsheet: CELEX number, Date, Titel, Theme(s), place(s) mentioned in the question, the institution to which the request is addressed (Commission or Council), political affiliation and nationality of the Mep(s).

The time span takes into account the legislative periods of the European Parliament. It begins with the year of the first direct election of the European Parliament and ends with the fourth legislative period of the European Parliament, i.e. the end of the 1990s.

The dataset aims to shed light on a little-investigated aspect of the history of European integration and provides data that can be of interest for studies on the social, political, economic and environmental history of Europe as a whole and of each member state.
