An Application of DNA metabarcoding to analyze the diet of Japanese boars (Sus scrofa leucomystax) in Hachioji- and Kanayama-hilly areas, Ota City, Gunma Prefecture.. feces metagenome

We conducted a diet analysis of Japanese boars (Sus scrofa leucomystax) in Hachioji and Kanayama hilly areas located in Ota city of Japan from August 2018 to February 2019. Fifteen fecal materials were collected directly from the colon of culled boars and were tested for the DNA metabarcoding-based protocol to describe the plant and animal diet composition of wild boars using rbcL and CO1 markers, respectively. In conclusion, the barcoding method is a very effective tool for gaining a more detailed understanding of the impacts of boars to agricultural activity and environment conservation.
