This study investigates the microbial community structure of floating iron biofilms compared to surface sediments and soils across diverse environments in China. Using 16S rRNA gene sequencing, the research aims to uncover the microbial diversity within these biofilms and their relationship to surrounding sediments and soils. Floating iron biofilms, formed at the water-air interface, represent unique ecological niches that may influence the local biogeochemistry. Understanding the microbial dynamics in these biofilms relative to surface sediments and soils is important for advancing knowledge of wetland ecosystem processes and their role in environmental change.
