The context for the exhibition was conceived by Martina Copley and Rhett D'Costa. It became an exhibition in which six selected artists invited an artist each to exhibit alongside. Each of the pairing developed a dialogue to determine how the artists would engage with each other. Counterpoint and confluence in the relations between paired works open up the space to a multiplicity of dialogues. Possible readings in the work presented became prismatic and suggest various ways of?thinking about drawing in the most expansive way. The exhibition operated as a satellite show for the Drawing Out Conference conducted at RMIT University. I worked with Fran van Riemsdyk on a project which started with the idea of rose prunning. The dialogue led to my work which striated across the wall resembling an abstracted version of pruned rose bushes, but opened up spatial readings which examined fractured spaces without demarcation. Movements across these spaces opens up possibilities of shared spaces with commonalities rather than demarcation which become fixed and permanent. These ideas relate directly to my ongoing investigation relating to my Phd.- Shimmering Spaces: Installation practices informed by an Anglo-Indian experience. The colored monochromes relate to existing 'English' roses from my garden and as the title suggests, hints at 'days gone by', a subliminal reference to colonialisation and the British Raj.
