Share of 65+ GRAPA or RG beneficiaries among men
The indicator reports the number of beneficiaries of the old-age income guarantee or the guaranteed income (GRAPA or RG) to the population aged 65 and over, as of 1 January. The Income Guarantee for the Elderly (GRAPA) is a benefit for older people whose income is too low to support their subsistence. It has replaced the former Guaranteed Income (RG) since 2 001. A GRAPA is obtained after an examination of the applicant’s means of subsistence. It must also meet age, nationality and residence requirements. The National Pensions Office (ONP) examines the rights to a GRAPA automatically in certain cases (application for a retirement pension, pre-pensioner who reaches the legal age). Persons wishing to obtain a GRAPA may also submit an application to the ONP themselves. If the application is received positively, the applicant will receive an amount which will take into account his/her family situation. The basic amount is applicable where the applicant shares the same main residence with one or more persons and the increased basic amount is allocated to the single applicant, i.e. who does not share his or her main residence with other persons.
