Wastewater alkalinity addition

Wastewater alkalinity addition (WAA), as a novel frame of ocean alkalinity enhancement (OAE), was considered as having the ability to absorb atmospheric carbon dioxide (CO2) rapidly, but there was a lack of empirical research. To explore CO2 removal capacity and potential environmental impacts of the sewage-delivered OAE approach, a laboratory-based 20 L incubation system was employed to simulate the discharge of alkalized wastewater into seawater (DAWS). The sewage-delivered OAE approach could have technical feasibility, but further in-situ research is needed to understand long-term effects.
