资源简介:
6 images. Yacht "Angelita" (in full dress), (flags), 4 July 1958. T. Quinn Mitchell (pilot); Admiral Frank D. Higbee.; Supplementary material reads: "Note to Photo Room: Give extra time 400 at 16 overcast, flat light, infinity, on water. Gershon. City desk. Illus. Angelita capers. 1-2: Angelita in outer Los Angeles harbor just after she broke out dress flags. This is one in a series of puzzling capers yesterday. By custom, men-O-war do not dress ship underway whether in port or at sea. She left dock without dress flags flying, broke them out near Marine Exchange building at entrance to main channel. 3-4: Angelita in full dress passes 'Angel's Gate' Lighthouse guarding entrance to Los Angeles harbor. 5-6" Pilot T. Quinn Mitchell, cools heels at gate until his credentials he is showing were given final approval by ship's officers. He was second of two pilots ordered by Angelita in Fourth of July 'comedy of operations'".; Supplementary material continues: "7-8: Dress flags show on awning. They had been laid out ready for breaking out at 8 a.m. but order was rescinded then re-ordered after Angelita got underway, not customarily done. 9-10: Same as 8-9. 11: Admiral Frank Higbee, Los Angeles port warden, is shown listening as guards attempt to induce him to return lock he had taken from gate in effort to get one of the higher ranking ship's officers to discuss pilot questions. 1958-07-04".
