Effect of Antibiotic Pre-Treatment and Systemic Candida albicans Infection on the mouse gut microbiome

Wild-type immunocompetent mice were pre-treated with antibiotics in the drinking water (broad-spectrum cocktail, or vancomycin single treatment) for 4 weeks, then infected intravenously with Candida albicans SC5314, and animals switched onto normal (no antibiotic) drinking water. Samples were taken at "day 0" (the day of infection, 4 weeks antibiotic-treatment, no infection) or "day 6" (6 days post-Candida infection, 4 weeks antibiotic-treatment + 6 days infection).
