Specific gut bacterial and fungal microbiota pattern in the first half of pregnancy is linked to the development of gestational diabetes mellitus

Gestation is linked to significant changes in gut microbiota composition and function and these shifts differ between normoglycemic and diabetic pregnancies. Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) can develop at any time of the pregnancy, thus we focused on the gut microbiota pattern in early pregnancies to detect changes which could predict later GDM development.
