Gut microbiota profiling of type 1 diabetes patients

Type 1 Diabetes (DT1) is a multifactorial autoimmune disease involving the selective destruction of insulin-producing beta cells by auto-antibodies, in genetic predisposed individuals. However, other factors as diet, antibiotic exposure, and dysbiotic gut microbiota have been associated with T1D pathophysiology. The consequence of gut dysbiosis leads to the impairment in gut permeability followed by triggering of mucosal immune responses and then, the antibody attack to insulin-producing beta cell.The metagenomic 16S rDNA-based sequencing of stool samples from T1D patients unraveled the microbial biomarkers for this disease.
