This Flower Pot Bowl is an example of Style III from the Galaz Ruin site. Galaz ruin (sometimes known as Galaz Ruin) is a Mimbres village in Grants County, southwestern New Mexico, occupied from A.D. 550 to 1350. Galaz was one of the largest villages occupied during Mimbres Classic times (A.D. 1000-1130), and it also contained numerous pithouses and a Postclassic settlement, as well as a large assemblage of ceramics, lithics, and faunal material. Originally excavated in the 1920s and 1930s by the Southwest Museum of Los Angeles and the University of Minnesota, it became a point of controversy regarding looting in the 1970s and was eventually bulldozed out of existence. Before Galaz was destroyed in the 1970s, the Mimbres Foundation conducted extensive excavations and produced a comprehensive report (Anyon and LeBlanc 1984, http://library.lib.asu.edu/record=b2037447~S3).
