LeMYB12 overexpression affects entire flavonoid metabolic pathway. LeMYB12 not only regulated the flavonol biosynthesis but also affected the other flavonoid compounds. Moreover, the phenylalanine biosynthesis was activated to provide precursors, and the phenylpropanoid metabolic flux was oriented towards flavonoid rather than lignin. In addition to enhancing glycosylation and acylation of flavonoids, LeMYB12 promoted intracellular transport of flavonoids.
