Time course study that monitored clinical observation data, cytokines from gingival crevicular fluid, and microbial composition from sub-gingival dental plaque.. Experimental Gingivitis Study

Human subjects participated in an experimental gingivitis study that aimed to induce gingivitis through the application of avoiding oral hygiene for part of the mouth through the use of a custom fit stint. Subjects received a professional cleaning 14 days prior to the onset of the study to create a baseline for the experiment. Subjects where then monitored for 21 days in which gingival crevicular fluid, sub-gingival plaque, and clinical observations, ie probing depth, were taken every 7 days. Each subject provided their own control samples. Unique differences in cytokine and microbial profiles were observed.
