The isolation of this bacterial strain was part of a project to isolate different strains of bacteria capable of degrading various classes of aromatic pollutants. Furthermore, the research was based on the hypothesis that bacteria isolated from “petroleum sludge from a desert” would have enhanced remediation abilities towards organic pollutants. During the course of the project, a number of bacterial isolates were purified which showed interesting remediation abilities, such as being able to efficiently degrade azo dyes under both aerobic and anaerobic conditions. Additionally, one of the isolated strain showed no need for nutrient broth for the degradation of a triaryl methane class of aromatic compound. Originally submitted as Bacillus sp. UAEU-H3K6M1
