In the current study, we used historical FFPE samples from NEC and SIP (non-NEC controls) preterm infants. We aimed to 1) establish a suitable DNA extraction procedure for FFPE blocks, 2) compare tissue from the site of disease and adjacent healthier tissue, and 3) determine associations between the microbiota of preterm infants diagnosed with NEC compared to SIP controls.
