Forest Functions in Saxony — Natura2000 Fauna Flora Habitat (FFH) and Bird Conservation Areas (SPA)

The data set contains all forest areas that have been designated as Flora Fauna Habitat Areas (FFH) or Bird Conservation Areas (SPA) within the framework of the transposition of Directive 92/43/EEC (FFH Directive) and § 32 BNatSchG in conjunction with § 22a SächsNatSchG Schutz. The objective of the Habitats Areas is to preserve biodiversity through the protection of natural habitats (according to Annex I to the Habitats Directive) and of wild fauna and flora (according to Annex II of the Directive) at pan-European level and, together with the bird protection areas, the establishment of the coherent ecological network Natura 2000. Spa areas are designed to protect all wild birds and their habitats in Europe, with particular regard to migratory birds. The data is used for the forest function map 1:25,000 of Saxony.
