Education Sector and Its Impact on Career Choice: Students' Perception Dataset

The prevalence trend of students from developing countries going abroad for higher education as an international career path is increasing global concern, including in Bangladesh. This cross-sectional data was collected to examine the impact of the education sector on students' career perceptions in Bangladesh. Simple random sampling was employed as a sampling technique during the study period from August 2023 to March 2024. In the survey, a total of 650 public, private, and national university students across all eight divisions of Bangladesh were included through a Google-based questionnaire platform. The survey included questions about socio-demographic characteristics and the Dundee Ready Education Environment Measure (DREEM). Before starting the study, the questionnaire was translated into English, and the students were given an in-depth overview of the study's objectives, data collection procedure, and privacy precautions. This dataset may be valuable to researchers investigating the relationship between the education sector, socio-economic conditions, as well as determining the factors that influence students' preference for higher education as an international career path or the current job market in their home country for pursuing their future career objectives. To get a deeper understanding of the broader framework, policymakers may find it advantageous to enact policies specifically suited to meet the needs and preferences of students.
