RESEARCH BACKGROUND: 'A House for Hermes 07 (part 2)' is an iteration of an ongoing project by Charles Anderson installed at the curated group exhibition 'Always on my Mind'. This work is a computer generated animation made specifically to be shown on the giant LED screen at Seoul Square, in collaboration with Tim Schork and Indae Hwang. The video shows a turbulent, swirling particle cloud which slowly begins to form the outlines of a house. At the point where this emergent 'house' seems to achieve definitive form it suddenly dissolves back into its chaotic dance of particles. RESEARCH CONTRIBUTION: This work is part of the ongoing A House for Hermes project which muses upon what constitutes 'house', 'home' and 'place' in the contemporary world of ceaseless change, displacement and exile. The work examines an intimate un-homed geography: an intuition of dwelling not as a house which becomes to our former selves what the corpse is to the living body, but a house which spatialises a different thinking of time and the dynamic of recollection. Alongside works of other artists and designers from Australia and Korea, Anderson presents his understanding of 'home' in the context of today's de-territorialisation of culture and identity. RESEARCH SIGNIFICANCE: Anderson's video work was shown at Seoul Square - a significant public area in front of Seoul Station - on a large 99x78m 'media canvas' run by Gana Art Gallery, over the span of 2 months. The exhibition was part of the Australia - Korea Art Project celebrating 50 years of diplomatic relations between Australia and Korea; it investigates the multiple notions of 'home' through the work of two groups of artists, each coming from the other side of the globe.
研究背景:《给赫尔墨斯的房子07(第二部分)》(A House for Hermes 07 (part 2))是查尔斯·安德森(Charles Anderson)正在推进的系列创作之一,该作品参展于策展群展《始终萦绕于心》(Always on my Mind)。
