# Introduction
Ordnance Survey's premium land cover dataset is the most current and comprehensive data available for Great Britain. It contains point, line, and polygon features that are manmade (for example, tennis courts, residential gardens, construction sites) or natural land (for example, coniferous trees, cliffs, heath or rough grassland), but excludes features exclusively associated with buildings, structures, transport and water (the excluded features can be found in OS Buildings, OS Transport Network, OS Land Use Features, or OS Water Network). It is enriched with geometry change metadata, a description of the feature and detailed land use and land cover classification information. OS land cover classifications are also aligned to European Nature Information System (EUNIS) and UK Biodiversity Action Plan (BAP) Broad Habitats classification schemes.
Land cover data from OS ensures highly accurate insight into land and its characteristics, and is trusted by businesses and government to inform critical decisions and deliver vital services with complete confidence.

## What is its value?
Urban vs rural analysis: use the dataset to uncover the differences between urban, rural and moorland areas to inform policy development, infrastructure planning and using third party datasets, demographic studies.
Environmental impact assessments: evaluate how proposed developments might affect natural land features.
Perils modelling: study terrain characteristics to inform flood risk assessment.
