Projecting development of TB-IRIS using RNA velocity of whole blood

TB-associated immune reconstitution inflammatory syndrome (TB-IRIS) is characterised by severe inflammation and immunopathology directed to TB pathogen shortly after commencing antiretroviral therapy (ART) in HIV-TB coinfected patients. This study aims to investigate if RNA Velocity strategy can be used to predict development of TB-IRIS Overall design: Whole blood was collected from 95 patients with HIV-associated TB at 2 weeks following antiretroviral initiation. Among the 95 patients, 36 developed TB-IRIS by week 2, with another 8 that would eventually develop TB-IRIS. All patients were from the placebo arm of the PredART clinical trial
