The first glimpse of the Verticillium longisporum genome. Verticillium longisporum, isolate VL1

Verticillium longisporum is a major soilborne pathogen on Brassica oil- and cabbage crops. Here we report the genome sequence the V. longisporum isolate VL1, assembled using Illumina sequencing technology with a base coverage of 64x. The genome size is estimated to ~70 Mbps, comprising ~21,000 gene models, 2-5.5% repetitive sequences and 0.9-2% transposable elements. Genomic comparisons revealed that approximately 86% of the V. longisporum genomes are shared with V. dahlia and V. albo-atrum, with high extent of gene duplications.
